Santos mourns Didi, Pelé’s famed barber, aged 87 | OneFootball

Santos have mourned the death of João Araújo, known as Didi, aged 87. According to Diario Do Peixe, the legendary barber was a fixture for generations of the club’s greats.

His barbershop stood beside Vila Belmiro, becoming a regular stop for many Santos stars.

It was there that Pelé’s famous quiff was first devised.

Pepe, nicknamed O Canhão da Vila and another of Didi’s well-known clients, paid tribute on social media. He said the shop was more than a place for grooming, recalling lively conversations, laughter and friendships across generations, and described Didi as simple, generous and a good listener. He added that Didi’s memory would endure in the stories told in that chair.

The wake will take place on Tuesday from 10 to 15h40 at Beneficência Portuguesa in Santos. Cremation is scheduled for 16h at the Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica.
