A São Paulo court has accepted a complaint from the state prosecutor’s office and made Duilio Monteiro Alves, Corinthians’ former president, a defendant on an embezzlement charge tied to alleged personal use of the club’s corporate card between 2021 and 2023.

Prosecutors say the card paid for personal expenses such as restaurants, grooming, airport shopping, cigarettes, beer, luxury hotels and wine, unrelated to the unpaid presidency.

Judge Elaine Cristina Pulcineli Vieira Gonçalves, of the 15th Criminal Court, found sufficient indications to proceed. Duilio has 10 days from notification to respond through his lawyer. A forensic audit may be assessed during proceedings.

Suspicious spending between 26 September and 31 October 2023 allegedly exceeds R$ 80 mil. In November testimony, Duilio said he used only R$ 1.300.

The prosecution cites R$ 41.822,62 in loss to Corinthians and seeks R$ 31.366,96 in compensation, based on bills from May 2021 to December 2023.

Prosecutors requested asset freezes, access bans, travel limits and bank and tax secrecy waivers. The judge rejected precautionary measures for now, saying there is no current risk to the case. Duilio was removed from club activities, including Cori.

In October 2025, ex-president Andrés Sanchez was charged over alleged misuse from 2018-2020, plus money laundering and tax crimes, about R$ 480 mil.

Former finance executive Roberto Gavioli also became a defendant alongside Duilio, accused of failing to prevent personal spending and to oversee invoices and approvals. He had already been charged in the Andrés case.

Through lawyer Lucas Lopes Knupp, Duilio’s defence told ge.globo it trusts the judiciary and due process and expects the facts to be clarified.
