Maurizio Sarri is ‘far from happy’ as he ‘wasn’t listened to at all’ at Lazio: ‘ If our plans don’t align, there’s no point in moving forward.’

Lazio suffered a 2-0 loss in the Rome Derby against Roma on Sunday and will finish the season outside a European place for the second consecutive time. It had never happened during Claudio Lotito’s tenure.

Sarri hints at Lazio exit

Inevitably, Sarri was fuming at full-time: “This season’s situation hasn’t pleased me,” he told DAZN via Sportmediaset.

“I wasn’t listened to at all, and I’m far from happy. Perhaps the club isn’t happy either. Let’s finish the season and see if they have anything to say to me.”

Sarri returned to Lazio last summer, signing a contract until 2028, but his future at the Olimpico is far from certain.

“We need to separate the environment from the club. From an environmental perspective, I would like to stay. I feel like an integral part of this environment, but when it comes to the club, if our plans don’t align, there’s no point in moving forward,” he said.

“I haven’t heard any plans from anyone, so I can’t give a precise answer.”

Multiple sources in Italy have claimed that Sarri is the leading candidate for Napoli, should the Partenopei part ways with Antonio Conte.

Napoli have qualified for the Champions League thanks to a 3-0 win over Pisa today, but Conte has suggested that he might be leaving the Stadio Maradona.

Lazio had qualified for the Coppa Italia Final, but lost it on Wednesday against Serie A champions Inter.

“At the moment, since we don’t have exceptional quality, winning something would have been important,” Sarri concluded.

“For months, I had been hearing people talk about the Final, which was played against Inter. It was easier to lose than to win because the Nerazzurri are on another level right now. We have to praise the players for making it that far.”
