Werder Bremen’s Deichstube fan-site – after recently reporting otherwise – now claims that Scottish midfielder Jordan Holsgrove is not a serious candidate for the Hanseatic city-state club. The Estoril midfielder could nevertheless still be on the move to another Hanseatic city-state Bundesliga club. Hamburg is thought to be interested, as is Augsburg. This is according to a report in Portugal’s Record.
The Deichstube report notes that the link initially reported by Britain’s Telegraph leads nowhere. Bremen continue to proactively keep an eye on several midfielders as potential replacements for leading goalscorer Jens Stage. Rumors linking Stage with a move to Hoffenheim continue to swirl. Deichstube reiterates that Mattias Svanberg of relegated Wolfsburg remains the strongest potential replacement candidate.
Holsgrove, a defensive midfielder, certainly doesn’t fit Stage’s profile.
Estoril are reportedly seeking €3.5 million for Holsgrove, who remains under contract through June 2028 and is valued at €5 million. This relatively modest asking price could make him an attractive option for several Bundesliga clubs. It’s worth noting that Augsburg retain plenty of options in defensive midfield. Hamburg also have plenty of other options in the position.
One assumes that more Holsgrove rumors will surface over the course of the next few weeks.
Reports of interest from HSV and FCA, however, may not have much substance to them.
