Nottingham Forest have appointed Sean Dyche as their new head coach, marking a homecoming for the 54-year-old who began his playing career as a trainee at the City Ground in the late 1980s. Sky Sports have reported. Dyche replaces Ange Postecoglou, dismissed on Saturday just minutes after Forest’s 3–0 home defeat to Chelsea, his tenure lasting a mere 39 days, the shortest permanent managerial reign in Premier League history.

Dyche has signed a contract running until the summer of 2027 and will take charge of his first match on Thursday when Forest face Porto in the Europa League. Former Forest players Ian Woan and Steve Stone will join his coaching staff, further strengthening the club’s sense of continuity and identity.

In a statement, Forest described Dyche as a “respected and experienced Premier League manager” whose sides are characterised by “defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces,” qualities the hierarchy believe align closely with the squad’s strengths.

For owner Evangelos Marinakis, Dyche’s appointment is a crucial bid for stability after a turbulent start to the season that has left Forest in the relegation zone. Having invested heavily in the summer, more than £180m, Marinakis is said to view Dyche as the man to “steady the ship” and maximise the club’s substantial outlay.
