Rennes have signed Poland international Sebastian Szymanski from Fenerbahçe for 9.5 million euros plus 1 million in bonuses, on a deal to 2029, according to L'Équipe. The left-footed attacking midfielder is seen as a nimble addition to their European push.
The 26-year-old, capped 50 times with six goals and 60 European matches, had long been tracked by Loïc Désiré’s recruitment team.
Ex-Poland international Ludovic Obraniak called it a very good pick, praising a left foot that can break lines. He highlighted Szymanski’s work rate, set-piece delivery and versatility across the right flank, as a 10 and in a midfield three, and said a partnership with Przemysaw Frankowski could ease his integration.
Brought through at Legia Warsaw, he joined Dynamo Moscow in 2019 aged 20, then spent 2022-23 on loan at Feyenoord, the title season under current Liverpool coach Arne Slot, scoring nine and assisting four.
He later signed for Fenerbahçe and, despite Premier League interest, José Mourinho kept him in summer 2024 after a Süper Lig campaign of 10 goals and 11 assists, and he was not allowed to leave the following summer. His minutes fell after Mourinho departed, and Rennes seized the opening.
Beye now has an extra creative option alongside Ludovic Blas, broadening tactics but intensifying competition for Blas, Seko Fofana and Djaoui Cissé. He said the side has evolved and called it a constant challenge, urging frustrated players to prove in training and games that they are the solution for the starting XI or as impact players.
