Rodri is expected to leave Manchester City this summer. The Spanish World Cup champion is pushing for a move to Real Madrid. However, it has now come to light that the Citizens tried to block the transfer—and even floated the idea of the star midfielder joining FC Bayern, among other options.

According to consistent media reports, Rodri wants to return to his native Spain after seven years with Manchester City. The 30-year-old has reportedly already given Real Madrid his approval for a transfer.

According to Sky, direct talks are now underway between Real Madrid and Manchester City. While the English club is demanding a transfer fee of around 75 million euros, Real Madrid is reportedly currently willing to pay just over 50 million euros.

Manchester City contacted FC Bayern

As reported by the English website TEAMtalk, Manchester City has made significant efforts in recent weeks to prevent Rodri’s move to Madrid after all.

According to the report, the Sky Blues tried, through intermediaries, to involve other top European clubs in the transfer negotiations. In addition to Paris Saint-Germain, FC Bayern was also contacted and asked about potential interest.

Rodri’s name has come up repeatedly in Munich in recent years. Following the departures of Leon Goretzka, Raphaël Guerreiro, and Noel Aseko, there would in fact have been room for another player in central midfield.

Nevertheless, according to TEAMtalk, the response from Säbener Straße was unequivocal. Bayern immediately made it clear that a transfer was out of the question for them.

According to the report, the decisive factor was above all Rodri’s clear desire to join only Real Madrid. Consequently, neither Munich nor Paris Saint-Germain saw any realistic chance of convincing the Spaniard to move to Munich.

In addition, sporting director Max Eberl had recently emphasized on several occasions that FC Bayern’s transfer plans regarding new signings were complete. Following the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, the Munich club intends to make further moves only if unexpected opportunities arise through player sales.

For Rodri, the path thus appears to continue leading clearly to Madrid. Whether Real Madrid and Manchester City can reach an agreement on the transfer fee is likely to be one of the most exciting storylines on the European transfer market in the coming weeks.
