Leeds United target Shea Charles was left out of Southampton’s squad for their pre-season opener at Eastleigh amid ongoing transfer discussions. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, talks between the clubs continue but are currently at an impasse over valuation.
Leeds are said to have lodged offers this summer, the latest reportedly rising to £25m. The 22-year-old is also believed to interest Fulham and Crystal Palace. Southampton are thought to want around £30m, with no bid yet matching that figure.
Southampton beat neighbours Eastleigh 3-1 with a strong group featuring Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Leo Scienza and £9m signing Lewis Dobbin. Head coach Tonda Eckert used different line-ups in each half, but Charles did not appear.
Given his later return, the likelihood was he was not yet considered fit enough to play. Ben Brereton Diaz also seemed short of fitness, while Finn Azaz missed out with a minor injury.
Saints face Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday in Germany, the first of two games on their training camp, and it remains unclear whether Charles will be available. The former Manchester City academy graduate remains on Leeds’ list, with Daniel Farke’s side last week completing their first fee-paying signing of the summer, a £34m move for centre-back Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo, after free agent Harry Wilson.
