Sheffield Wednesday have set their sights on signing a striker from Birmingham City in a new emerging update
Sheffield Wednesday have made the most of any arising opportunities to add to Henrik Pedersen's depleted squad throughout the season, with a host of temporary additions completed in spite of the Owls' crisis campaign and litany of EFL-imposed restrictions.
It has been a season of nightmares for the Steel City outfit, who have been hamstrung from the mess left behind by former owner Dejphon Chansiri after his administration-enforced departure late last year.
A summer squad exodus took place without remedy at Hillsborough, with a number of stars leaving Pedersen's side in a position where the luckless Dane was only able to add two loanees to his roster at the time in the form of now-departed pair Harry Amass and Ethan Horvath.
Wednesday, then, relished the opportunity to freshen up the squad somewhat in the winter window, in which they secured loan arrivals for Tayo Adaramola, Murphy Cooper, Jaden Heskey, Marvelous Nakamba, Joel Ndala and Jerry Yates.
Those additions have, it must be said, done precious little to uplift the Owls' doomed fortunes on the pitch as they bid to simply conclude the campaign outside of minus points after seeing relegation confirmed away to Steel City rivals Sheffield United in February, although renewed hope and positivity has been offered through David Storch's ongoing, and exciting, takeover attempt of the club and the following season in League One and beyond is what's really in the thinking of Wednesdayites right now.
Wednesday are finally looking towards a future, and with that in mind, the third-tier-bound outfit have set their sights on a striker addition from present Championship rivals Birmingham City.
Sheffield Wednesday are looking to prise a young forward talent away from Birmingham as preparations head underway towards the 2026/27 campaign and, indeed, the club's longer-term future as Storch's takeover bid edges ever closer towards completion.
And, as per a report from journalist Joe Crann's Substack service - The Wednesday Word - the player in question is Blues prospect Frank Tattum, who is currently on trial with the Owls in an effort to complete a move to South Yorkshire in the coming months.

It has been revealed that the 20-year-old has been trialing for Wednesday and found the back of the net in the Owls under-21's 2-0 victory away at Wigan Athletic on Tuesday afternoon.
The clash at the Brick Community Stadium represented Tattum's first outing on trial, with the striker making a strong impression after replacing returning forward George Brown at the interval.
Tattum, who is reportedly set to depart Birmingham at the end of the season after spending time out on loan in the National League North with both Alvechurch and Leamington, could turn out in the Owls' clash against Cardiff City this Friday, although the time-frame of his trial period in blue-and-white remains unclear at this moment in time.
The youngster scored on five occasions for Leamington and, though he remains an unknown quantity right now, Wednesdayites will be watching closely to see whether his signature could be worth the punt.
They may also be encouraged by the fact Tattum, who can operate out wide alongside through the middle, scored 19 goals during the 2023/24 campaign as Blues' under-18 side won both the U18 Professional Development League Nnorth and National play-off title.
Sheffield Wednesday clearly value Tattum as a potentially-exciting prospect in the making and are continuing to run the role over handing the forward a permanent contract as he bids to show his worth to the Owls' coaching staff.
Seeing him score on debut, then, was an undoubted boost and a vindication of the decision to take Tattum on trial in the first place, even if it's unclear just how ready he is for first-team football.
One player who is, however, is the aforementioned Brown, whose return to action represents an overwhelming positive for the Owls heading into what remains of the current campaign and the following term in the third-tier.

The 20-year-old Wednesday academy product broke onto the scene at the start of the season and scored twice from seven Championship appearances before seeing his progress halted with a serious hamstring injury in December, which he is yet to fully return from.
Brown remains a richly-promising young talent who will be expected to have a significant impact on proceedings in League One, and while Wednesday will only wish to have been able to call upon his services in such a nightmareish season, his impending return and ability to get through his first test back in competitive football unscathed is a source of real positivity for Pedersen's side.
