There is plenty of takeover interest in Sheffield Wednesday after they entered administration last month.

After a dismal few years under Dejphon Chansiri, Sheffield Wednesday will hope that they are under new ownership in a matter of months.

It has been a very difficult period for the Owls, who entered administration last month, and the 12-point deduction that followed effectively condemned them to League One football next season.

However, Wednesday fans won’t be too bothered by that, as they had feared for the existence of the club under Chansiri, but they are now on the lookout for new owners - and it appears there is plenty of interest.

With that in mind, we provide the latest as the administrators await formal offers from bidders to buy Sheffield Wednesday, with reports stating 11 parties have shown proof of funds…

US billionaire John McEvoy has tour of Hillsborough

Whilst we don’t know every interested party, it has been said previously that US billionaire John McEvoy is keen on buying the Owls.

And, in a fresh development, the Sheffield Star has revealed that he has travelled to the UK this week and had a tour of Hillsborough stadium and the Middlewood training base.

It should be stressed that he is not the only party to have had a look around the facilities, with another US group having visited too, but it does show that he has a genuine interest in buying Wednesday.

McEvoy is a well-known sports fan, as he has an interest in MLB franchise Colorado Rockies and NHL side Nashville Predators, whilst he was linked with a takeover of Coventry a few years ago, which suggests he is keen on getting into football.

Given his wealth and background in sports, McEvoy is sure to be a popular option among the supporters, but journalist Alex Miller has insisted that he is not the most likely candidate to purchase the Yorkshire outfit.

As outlined above, there are plenty of discussions going on in the background with potential buyers, and some of them are very familiar names to football fans.

It has been reported by the Sheffield Star that ex-Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is among those to have shown an interest, and they state he wants to buy the club.

Given how his time at Newcastle went, it’s fair to say that Wednesday fans are unlikely to be too excited about the prospect of Ashley purchasing the club.

Meanwhile, another name that has been mentioned is Charlie Methven, who would have been part of a consortium to buy the Owls.

Yet, the same update claims that the former Sunderland part-owner, who has also been involved at Charlton, and his group are no longer pursuing a deal.

This is an ongoing process for Sheffield Wednesday, but things should start to take shape over the next few weeks.

Firstly, November 21st is an important date, as it’s 28 days since the club entered administration, and all official offers for the club need to be placed by then.

After that, December 5th is another date for the fans to keep note of, as the administrators will use that two-week period to decide on a preferred bidder.

By that date, it should become clear who is the preferred bidder, and they will then work on finalising a deal for the club. That will include passing the EFL Fit and Proper Persons test, as well as other checks, so it could still be some time before the new owner is in place.
