According to Sky Sports, Manchester United have accepted an offer from Manchester City for midfielder Grace Clinton. “Manchester United have reluctantly accepted an offer from Manchester City for Grace Clinton,” Sky’s Anton Touloi reported. With Clinton entering the final year of her contract, United were conscious of not repeating recent mistakes. Losing Alessia Russo, Ona Batlle and Mary Earps for little or no return has left scars in recruitment strategy.

In response, United are preparing a move for City’s Jess Park. The attacking midfielder has been identified as the top target to bolster United’s squad and provide greater creativity. As Sky Sports explain: “A bid for the attacking player came out of the blue but her attacking prowess could bring an extra dimension to United.”

Both deals are expected to be finalised on Deadline Day, ensuring one of the most intriguing late moves in the WSL.
For Manchester United fans, this news is disappointing, bordering on painful. Supporters have watched a cycle repeat itself: talented players running down contracts and leaving for rivals, while the club scramble to find replacements. Grace Clinton’s departure to City is particularly tough to take. Not only is she a talented midfielder, but allowing her to cross the city feels like strengthening a direct rival at a time when United should be building for the future.
The comparison with Alessia Russo, Ona Batlle and Mary Earps is unavoidable. Fans remember the frustration of losing them without proper replacements in place, and it now seems lessons have not been fully learned. The signing of Jess Park may soften the blow, but it feels like a reactive move rather than a proactive strategy.
What will hurt most is the sense of drift. Supporters want clarity and direction, yet the club continue to appear vulnerable in the market, vulnerable to losing their best young talents to rivals. For many, the thought of watching Clinton thrive at City while United fight to rebuild is a reminder of the gulf in planning between the two clubs.
