Sources are apparently saying that Chelsea are looking to hijack Crystal Palace’s move to sign a centre back this January.
This is one of those transfer stories that could involve some dominoes, with situations sparking up all over the Premier League.
A few clubs are looking to sign new centre backs soon, and we know that one of them could be Chelsea.
But there is also the situation with Marc Guehi, who is still currently at Crystal Palace. Liverpool want to sign him and came very close to doing so in the summer, but that broke down.
He’s still expected to go, and Liverpool are still looking like a potential suitor for his signature. So Palace could need a new centre back very soon, and they are looking at Sporting centre back Ousmane Diomande. But so are Chelsea…

According to a report from TEAMtalk sources, Diomande is emerging as a prime target for Crystal Palace.
But Chelsea could hijack their pursuit as they eye a record-breaking transfer.
They claim that Palace are readying an offer of around £44m for Diomande for the winter transfer window, but Chelsea have reignited their long-standing interest in the 21-year-old.
Chelsea ‘have made a flurry of enquiries across Portugal’ this week, gauging the feasibility of a 2026 swoop.
Chelsea fans would love to club to try and sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, but unfortunately that does not look like it is going to happen due to the club spending so much on bringing in Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho in the summer.
Chelsea’s plans for one new winger who is arriving in the summer is not what people have been expecting – in our report on this situation from yesterday.
