Southampton have eclipsed Derby County’s record low of 11 Premier League points in a season after a goalless draw with Manchester City.

The Saints were relegated last month with seven games to spare, the earliest a side has ever been relegated from the Premier League. Ivan Juric left his role as manager after that relegation, with Simon Rusk placed in interim charge.

Though winless in five games, Rusk has guided Southampton to draws with Crystal Palace and Manchester City. The latter result saw Southampton move to 12 points for the campaign, surpassing Derby County’s infamous record.

Manchester City dominated the ball at St Mary’s but were unable to break down the stubborn Saints, who held firm to dent the visitor’s Champions League ambitions. City remain third in the Premier League table, but will be overhauled on Sunday if either Newcastle or Chelsea win in their clash at St James’ Park.

Southampton continue preparations for next season, where the Saints will look to bounce back with promotion at the first time of asking.
