Southampton player ratings as Saints dominate Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough | OneFootball

Southampton dominated at Hillsborough as James Bree and Ryan Manning put them in front, then Taylor Harwood-Bellis sealed it after Wednesday made it 2-1.

According to Sainstmarching.com, Tonda Eckert made two changes, handing Cameron Bragg a start for Flynn Downes and recalling Shea Charles for Casper Jander in an overhauled midfield. Cyle Larin kept his place, with Ross Stewart on the bench.

Bree struck from close range to open the scoring. On the stroke of half-time, Manning bent in a fine free-kick.

After the restart the hosts reduced the arrears, but Saints responded. Harwood-Bellis hooked in a Léo Scienza cross that was diverted into his path by Kuryu Matsuki.

Daniel Peretz, 6/10, was largely untroubled but was beaten at his near post by Jerry Yates. Bree, 7/10, impressed again. Jack Stephens, 7/10, made seven clearances, the most on the pitch.

Harwood-Bellis, 7.5/10, followed up Tuesday’s busy outing by scoring the third. Manning, 7/10, was better going forward, netting a free-kick and having four shots.

In midfield, Bragg, 6.5/10, showed maturity and accuracy, allowing Charles to push on. Charles, 6.5/10, was energetic and unlucky not to score.

Matsuki, 6/10, offered width and intensity. Finn Azaz, 7/10, underlined his value and could have had two assists, but Larin, 6/10, passed up both first-half chances.

Scienza, 6.5/10, tormented Sean Fusire and later should have made it 3-0, only for his tame effort to be saved by Dieng. Subs: Cameron Archer 6, Tom Fellows 6, Nathan Wood 6, Oriol Romeu N/A, Samuel Edozie 5.
