Spanish giants linked with “best midfielder in the league” with long term view

Moises Caicedo has been linked with a move to Real Madrid by sources online.

It’s a pretty far fetched idea, but you can see where it’s come from. Caicedo has been increasingly brilliant for the Blues, and last night scored another screamer to put us ahead against Liverpool.

CaughtOffside say that “sources close to the agents industry” have told them that Madrid have “quietly added Caicedo the list of midfielders they are monitoring.”

They see Caicedo as a “potential future solution” not an “immediately priority.”

New manager Xabi Alonso is reshaping the squad, and will need a few windows to get them to the level he wants

Caicedo transfer years away from being reality

We all remember this sort of thing with Eden Hazard. It’s one of the consequences of having one of the best players in the world on your team – they’re going to get linked to Real Madrid.

However unlike with Hazard, where the move was always an imminent danger and really did feel inevitable, there’s nothing yet like that here.

Firstly and most importantly, Chelsea hold all the cards. They’ve got Caicedo locked in to a long contract and are under no pressure to sell. He’s a key piece that this team is being built around.

It will be years before he’s at a point in his contract where Madrid can even come close to persuading us to sell. We spent more than £100m on him, and we’re not going to accept less until he’s into the final 18 months of his deal.

Secondly, for now Madrid are well stocked in midfield anyway. There will be no doubt they’re watching and like what they see, but that’s a long way from a bid or a transfer.
