The Lilywhites take on Aston Villa in their second group stage match at the Gaughan Group Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Both sides won their opening match and the winners of this weekend’s tie seem likely to win the group.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Spurs boss Vilahamn said that the club are keen to progress in this season’s competition.
“You want to compete in all of the competitions that you participate in and we want to go for a cup run this season,” Vilahamn said. “I’m not going to lie, I think the FA Cup is an even stronger competition but it’s still a cup that you’re competing for.
“When you’re competing for Tottenham to win a trophy, we want to make sure that we play a strong team. It’s the group stage, we are playing against a good opponent and still have Crystal Palace to play as well but we want a good performance and a good result tomorrow, so that we have a good chance of reaching the quarter-finals.”
Spurs have already played Aston Villa in the league this season. The two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Villa Park in September. Both teams like to attack and Vilahamn is expecting another exciting game this weekend.
He said “I don’t think either side will do anything different. I think it’ll be a good football game with two attacking teams and hopefully, there will be a few goals from our side.
“The main thing we want to do is keep building momentum. Even if we’ve had a few tough results, we don’t want to change; we want to keep doing what we are good at and develop the way that we want to play.
“It’s a cup game, so there’s everything to win and it doesn’t impact your league results. We are going for it tomorrow.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s Women’s League Cup fixture against Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.15pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets will be available on the day at the Gaughan Group Stadium.
