The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva do Futebol has set a Friday hearing for Corinthians’ appeal against sanctions arising from the derby with Palmeiras on the 12th.

The third Disciplinary Commission fined the club R$ 112,000, ordered the loss of one home match, and banned right-back Matheuzinho for four games and goalkeeper Hugo Souza for two. According to Globo.com, Corinthians have taken the case to the STJD plenary.

Corinthians intend to host Vasco at 16:00 Brasília time on Sunday at Neo Química Arena in the 13th round, arguing they have a 10-day window to serve the stadium ban. In parallel, they are banking on the appeal to overturn the punishment.

The club also seek to lift the players’ suspensions. Matheuzinho was punished for an aggression that led to his dismissal, while Hugo Souza was cited for comments criticising the refereeing in a mixed-zone interview.

A suspensive effect allowed Corinthians to field Hugo Souza against Vitória last Saturday. Matheuzinho served the automatic one-match ban for his red card, as did midfielder André after an obscene gesture.

The goalless derby finished 0-0 and was marked by two Corinthians dismissals, a drone dropping a stuffed pig on the pitch, a racist insult aimed at Palmeiras goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, and a mass altercation in the mixed zone with accusations of assaults from both sides.
