Sunderland are not currently pursuing a January deal for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu, Sunderland Echo understands, despite talk of a renewed push.
The 21-year-old was among several targets after promotion back to the Premier League in the summer, but Leicester’s valuation, understood to be upwards of £30 million, blocked any move.
Fatawu has impressed in the Championship this season, delivering five goals and seven assists in 26 league matches for a side four points off the play-offs. Sunderland are believed to be monitoring alternatives out wide.
Meanwhile, full-back Timothee Pembele has joined Le Havre on loan after struggling for minutes on Wearside. Signed from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, he made just eight senior appearances before departing this month.
“I’m not thinking about that [severing ties with Sunderland in the near future]. Right now, there’s a great challenge ahead with Le Havre. Maybe [a permanent transfer has been discussed] with my agent, but I don’t have any information. It would be great, though. I feel good here, my family comes often, I know the club, the city, but again, I don’t have complete control over my future.” Speaking to Paris Normandie.
