Sunderland fans hail 1937-inspired home shirt as collar, crest and black socks earn praise | OneFootball

According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland supporters have given a largely positive verdict on the new 1937-inspired home shirt after its unveiling on Tuesday, with sales beginning at eight am on Wednesday.

The Hummel design nods to the 1937 FA Cup winners, combining red and white stripes with a button-up collar, a retro crest and black shorts and socks. Those heritage touches shaped early social media reaction, with some already placing it among Hummel’s best since the brand returned to Wearside.

Many focused on the collar as the standout detail, and several fans described the overall look as a masterpiece or top class, tipping it to become an all-time favourite. Others felt the release could even edge last season’s popular Championship home shirt.

The return of black shorts and socks also landed well, with supporters saying it will look sharp under the lights against Italian opposition. One fan linked the design to the club’s return to European football and felt the Elvis and 1937 styles are going to bring good luck in the Premier League and in Europe. Another asked when Europa League name sets might be available.

Not everyone was convinced. A minority wanted the crest colour to mirror the 1937 original in blue, while one supporter said the badge spoiled the look and preferred last season’s kits, adding they were not keen on the pink top either.
