Sunderland are set for a seven-figure boost this summer as several players edge towards the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
According to Sunderland Echo, Noah Sadiki and Melker Ellborg strengthened their cases on Tuesday as DR Congo and Sweden won play-offs against Jamaica and Poland.
Sunderland have already banked payments from qualifiers after FIFA expanded its Club Benefit Programme to cover qualification as well as tournaments. After Qatar 2022 it distributed about $209 million, roughly $10,000 per player per day, rising to around $355 million this cycle.
If fit, regulars Granit Xhaka, Omar Alderete, Habib Diarra and Nilson Angulo look near-certain for Switzerland, Paraguay, Senegal and Ecuador, while Sadiki is established with DR Congo and Ellborg has a strong Sweden chance.
Robin Roefs, Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida are in the Netherlands frame, Chemsdine Talbi seems likely to travel with Morocco, Wilson Isidor has committed to Haiti, and Simon Adingra and Arthur Masuaku could also be involved.
If all 12 make it, Sunderland would be due payments for the group stage and preparation period. On 2022 rates, three weeks’ duty equated to roughly £200,000 per player, about £2,250,000 in total, with this summer likely to be slightly higher.
