Sunderland have been linked with two deals worth a combined £27million as Régis Le Bris delivered updates on key players following a 5-1 win at York City. According to Sunderland Echo, the head coach also outlined the club’s stance on several squad matters.
Dan Ballard is on course to feature during Sunderland’s upcoming tour of the United States. The Northern Ireland international had ankle surgery after his 2025/26 season ended early with a red card in the 1-1 draw with Wolves.
Romaine Mundle was a precautionary absentee at York, with workloads being managed at the start of pre-season. Sunderland decided against activating the near £20million option to sign Lutsharel Geertruida permanently after last season’s loan.
Anthony Patterson did not play as his long-term future remains unresolved. Championship clubs have shown interest, but none has matched Sunderland’s valuation.
Leo Hjelde will be assessed after a suspected knee issue forced him off in the second half. There has also been an apparent shift in the club’s position on Ukrainian attacker Timur Tutierov, who scored twice.
Le Bris also discussed new arrival Thomas Meunier.
