Régis Le Bris has made four changes to face Spurs this afternoon, with Robin Roefs fit to start. Dan Ballard remains out with a hamstring problem, while Reinildo, Nordi Mukiele and Enzo Le Fée also return after injuries.
According to Sunderland Echo, Luke O’Nien keeps his place at centre-back and Mukiele starts at right-back. Trai Hume, Lutsharel Geertruida and winger Chemsdine Talbi drop to the bench, with Chris Rigg on the right and Le Fée on the left.
Sunderland XI: Roefs in goal, a back four of Mukiele, O’Nien, Alderete and Reinildo. Xhaka, Sadiki and Diarra in midfield, with Rigg and Le Fée either side of Brobbey. Subs: Ellborg, Hume, Geertruida, Cirkin, Jenson Jones, Harrison Jones, Talbi, Mayenda, Isidor.
For Spurs, Antonin Kinsky starts in goal with Guglielmo Vicario sidelined by a hernia. New head coach Roberto De Zerbi has named a very attacking side with three strikers.
Le Bris says that after reaching 40 points at Leeds the squad set fresh targets. He says the ownership want consistent top-10 finishes, a vision he shares, and that edging towards the top six could be possible, perhaps even this season, though he accepts it may be early.
He adds the pressure is internal, with a desire to win at home after a sticky spell. He says he has no concerns about easing off. With the main goal probably achieved after a hard campaign, he wants standards maintained so the team can grow.
