Sunderland met supporters’ group The Red & White Army this week after widespread frustration with ticketing. According to Sunderland Echo, interim chief executive Tom Burwell joined club staff at the meeting, where the need to improve the experience was acknowledged.
Supporters who reported problems during season-ticket renewals are to be contacted directly. While 96% renewed for 2026/27, some raised serious concerns over the process and how issues were handled.
Some long-standing season-ticket holders were blocked from returning to general admission amid rising hospitality prices, and faced the prospect of joining a 15,000-strong waiting list if they did not renew corporate seats.
RAWA had urged a pause to renewals after being contacted by supporters across the Stadium of Light, then voiced disappointment at the lack of a final response. Following this week’s talks, a case-by-case review is to be completed. Affected supporters are set to receive contact by 5pm on Tuesday 12 May and a proposed solution by the middle of next week.
In March, 65 tickets for the Tyne-Wear derby were cancelled after what was described as a serious and exceptional instance of ticket misuse. Some supporters were affected through no fault of their own.
