Sunderland have named an initial 26-player United States tour squad, with Anthony Patterson travelling and Jocelin Ta Bi currently absent due to a visa issue.
According to Sunderland Echo, Régis Le Bris’ team face Liverpool at Geodis Park, Nashville on Saturday, 25 July, then Leeds United at Sports Illustrated Stadium, New Jersey on Thursday, 30 July, before Wrexham at Subaru Park, Pennsylvania on Sunday, 2 August.
Patterson is included despite uncertainty over his future after he missed the 5-1 win at York City, with interest from several Championship clubs yet to yield an agreement. Dan Ballard will travel and is expected to return to full training and get his first pre-season minutes in America.
Romaine Mundle is selected after a precaution at York, while Timur Tutierov goes after signing a new deal and scoring there. Seven players will join on 26 July following the FIFA World Cup, while Granit Xhaka, Chemsdine Talbi, Omar Alderete and Thomas Meunier will link up later and will not travel. Sunderland have appealed Ta Bi’s rejected application and remain hopeful he can join in the coming days.
