Sunderland start with 5-1 win as Le Bris urges patience in slow window

Sunderland opened their pre-season with an impressive 5-1 victory at York City at the weekend, while attention also turns to summer recruitment.

Head coach Regis Le Bris said the market feels slow and that a solid base means the club can afford to be patient.

He noted last season required 14 arrivals, whereas this summer will probably be six or seven, making the process more precise.

Free agent Thomas Meunier, 34, signed last week. After World Cup commitments with Belgium, he is taking a break before linking up with his new team-mates in August.

The Black Cats are working hard behind the scenes to strengthen further for Premier League and Europa League demands, though Le Bris emphasised it is better to wait for the right decisions than rush.
