A reported Sunderland target, Frank Zambo Anguissa, has been told he is a more complete player than Kevin De Bruyne as he enters the final year of his Napoli contract.

Reports in Italy last month suggested Sunderland were considering a move to bring the former Fulham midfielder back to the Premier League, almost five years after he joined Napoli on loan, a switch made permanent in summer 2022.

During his time at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, the Cameroon international has won the Serie A title twice and made 24 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League. He has 67 caps.

He is set to enter the final 12 months of his deal after an extension option was triggered, though reports indicate talks over fresh terms have halted. AreaNapoli reports Sunderland would need to offer around €20m, and says AC Milan are monitoring.

“Anguissa, all my life. Because he’s a complete, versatile player, capable of playing in both phases of the game,” said former Napoli player Gaetano Fontana. He was speaking to Tutto Napoli.

“De Bruyne is an extraordinary champion, but a player of his experience must bring added value to the team. For this reason, if I had to choose, I’d choose Anguissa without a doubt.”
