Premier League gameweek 24 concludes at the Stadium of Light on Monday night as Sunderland entertain a Burnley side desperate to end a historic winless drought.

While the two newly-promoted clubs find themselves at different ends of the table, both have endured a testing winter. Régis Le Bris has seen his Sunderland side’s early-season momentum slow recently, winning just one of their last six league outings to sit 11th.

However, they remain the only team in the division yet to taste defeat on their own turf this season. For Scott Parker and Burnley, the situation is increasingly urgent. The Clarets are winless in 14 Premier League matches and occupy 19th place, though they arrive in Wearside unbeaten in four across all competitions after a spirited 2–2 draw with Tottenham.

Team News

Sunderland

Régis Le Bris confirmed that midfield general Granit Xhaka is progressing well from an ankle injury but is still roughly three weeks away from a return. The Black Cats are also missing Bertrand Traoré (knee) and new signing Jocelyn Ta Bi (ankle). Following a disappointing 3–1 loss at West Ham, Habib Diarra is expected to be drafted into the midfield to provide much-needed stability.

Burnley

Scott Parker has received a double fitness boost with Zian Flemming and Joe Worrall both declared fit and in contention for the squad. However, the Clarets remain without a long list of injured players, including Zeki Amdouni, Connor Roberts, and Josh Cullen. New loan signing James Ward-Prowse will hope to make the squad as he looks to feature following his move from West Ham.

Form

Sunderland

The Black Cats have made the Stadium of Light a genuine fortress, with an unbeaten home record this season (W6 D5). Recent domestic results include a 2–1 victory over Crystal Palace and a hard-fought 1–1 draw with Manchester City. Notably, Sunderland often assert themselves late in games, with 72% of their home goals coming in the second half. They currently sit just four points adrift of potential European qualification spots.

Burnley

Burnley arrive in Wearside following a string of draws that have slowly stabilised their campaign, most recently a 2–2 draw with Tottenham and a 1–1 draw at Liverpool. Notably, they have drawn five of their seven league games since Matchday 17. However, their away form remains a critical weakness, with just one victory in 11 matches on the road. The Clarets are also statistically vulnerable late in games, having conceded seven goals in the 90th minute or later this season.

Predicted Lineups

Sunderland Predicted XI: Roefs; Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Cirkin; Diarra, Sadiki; Hume, Le Fee, Talbi; Brobbey

Burnley Predicted XI: Dubravka; Humphreys, Esteve, Tuanzebe; Walker, Ugochukwu, Florentino, Pires; Edwards, Anthony; Foster
