Everton will look to shake off the disappointment of back-to-back defeats when they travel to the north-east coast to take on a high-flying Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Monday.

The Toffees have suffered consecutive losses for the first time this season after conceding five goals without reply in the two games against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Vídeos OneFootball

They’ve not lost three in a row under David Moyes since October 2011, while the last time the Blues lost three games on the trot without scoring under the Scot was back in October 2005.

The onus will be on Moyes’s side to provide a fitting response but newly-promoted Sunderland are hardly going to be pushovers. They’re fourth in the league table with five wins in nine games and beat Chelsea 2-1 in their most recent outing. Everton, meanwhile, have dropped to 14th in the standings with 11 points from nine games.

It’ll be a special clash for Moyes and Jordan Pickford as they both have history with the Black Cats.

This will be the Toffees’ first meeting with Sunderland since the 2016-17 season. They’ve won only twice on their last eight visits to the Stadium of the Light.

We will win.

Edward, that's the spirit, mate.

I don't get the negative predictions before a ball has been kicked, by so-called Everton Fans?

Pete Hughes 11 Posted 01/11/2025 at 21:52:22

I fancy us to nick this by a single goal with Garner our scorer!

Alan McGuffog 12 Posted 01/11/2025 at 22:51:33

Never been more confident.

A three-one win. Sin miedo!

John Keating 13 Posted 01/11/2025 at 22:55:55

Whatever the score, however we play, we really need 3 points here. We are getting far too close to being involved in the relegation arena!

We can't keep making excuses. 3 points a must!

Mark Murphy 14 Posted 01/11/2025 at 23:26:04

Andy Crooks,

Absolutely! I cannot for the life of me understand why they do that.

I get the “I'm worried about this game” but predicting a loss and a scoreline? WTAF???

Jack Convery 15 Posted 02/11/2025 at 04:19:14

Be brave, Moyesiah, and make a radical change rather than tinker... 4-2-1-3

Pickford, Coleman (he played twice for Ireland so he can play for us too), O'Brien, Keane, Garner.Gueye, Dewsbury-Hall, Röhl, Ndiaye, Alcaraz Grealish.

2 nil to EFC. Röhl and Keane.

Jarmo Rahnasto 17 Posted 02/11/2025 at 07:53:00

I also would like to see Coleman on the starting line-up.

The team's balance would be much better by seeing a natural right back there.

Moyes will grind a result out of this game with shear hard work and commitment. Though I often attack Finch Farm, I know that there is the capacity in it to produce a performance, which has often kept Everton in the Premier League against the odds. This is the type of game that they will be all motivated for.

Jack #15,

Moyes has never played a formation like that in his whole managerial career. If he did, we would think that there was something wrong with him!

Jim Bennings 19 Posted 02/11/2025 at 10:25:28

He's going to have to change something.

We have scored just four goals since the end of August, it's very quickly turning into an Everton season once again in a very familiar Premier League placing.

The Premier League, other than Arsenal right now and Wolves who are looking doomed, is garbage.

Take last two weekends for example. Spurs beat Everton, Chelsea beat Spurs, Sunderland beat Chelsea, don't be surprised if Everton beat Sunderland. It's that kind of league.

Palace who lost to Arsenal, beat Brentford who beat Liverpool the previous weekend.

Leeds beat West Ham who in turn lose to Brighton the following weekend who they previously lost away to Man Utd.

The Premier League is one weekend you win, the next you lose. It's an unknown.

No team other than Arsenal is putting a consistent winning run together.

David #6, I would go for that line-up too. That team would definitely give Sunderland problems.

Unfortunately, it won't be and Moyes will play his normal set-up expecting things to change... and of course they won't.

Like Kunal, I wouldn't be surprised if we do win as the results are all over the place for all teams except for Arsenal who are winning and unfortunately Wolves who are losing.

Jim Bennings 23 Posted 02/11/2025 at 11:37:46

The Premier League is always wide open outside the top two and has been for a number of years. You only have to look at clubs like Bournemouth, Brighton constantly pushing the top 5 all the way.

Sadly, as wide open as the Premier League is, we at Everton never seem to find ourselves in that mix.

The thing is…

The cautious, predictable line-up that Moyes favours is best suited to this sort of game. This isn't the time to change it. The problem is home games, or 30 minutes to go when we need something fresh; this is where Moyes is failing.

By all means, start the predictable line-up away at Sunderland, just know what you're going to do to change or secure the result in the last 30 minutes.
