Sunderland have moved on to summer planning after securing Premier League safety with wins over Leeds United and Newcastle United, and their recruitment focus includes Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.

El Pais reports that an initial €25m offer for the 22-year-old was rejected in January, with the Real Madrid academy graduate also turning down a move to Wearside.

Munoz’s profile has risen after a first Spain call-up. He marked his debut with a goal in Friday’s friendly win over Serbia and will hope to impress again when the reigning European champions face Egypt on Tuesday, which could put him in contention for this summer’s World Cup in North America.

The report adds that Real Madrid retain a 50% resale clause from the deal that took Munoz to Osasuna last summer, and that he will only leave if a €40m release clause is triggered.

Sunderland are said to be among several European clubs tracking the winger. European qualification, only the second in the club’s history, remains possible in the run-in, and a significant summer window beckons regardless of how the season ends.
