Sunderland’s Premier League return has outstripped expectations and attention now turns to their most valuable players and overall squad standing.
Riding momentum from their Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United and a decisive summer window, they opened with a win over West Ham as Eliezer Mayenda, Wilson Isidor and Dan Ballard scored at a sold-out Stadium of Light. According to Transfermarkt, the valuations below are used.
Results kept flowing, with wins against Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and AFC Bournemouth and gritty draws with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. The standout feat is a league double over Newcastle, secured by a Nick Woltemade own goal in December then a 2-1 comeback on Tyneside this month through Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey.
Habib Diarra is valued at €32.00m, with Noah Sadiki at €30.00m. At €25.00m sit Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi and Chris Rigg. Trai Hume is €22.00m, Lutsharel Geertruida and Dan Ballard €20.00m, and Nordi Mukiele €18.00m.
Manchester City top the division on €1.31bn, ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Sunderland rank 16th on €381.95m, between Fulham on €386.95m and West Ham on €362.65m. Leeds United, Wolves and Burnley sit below them.
Seven matches remain as Sunderland push for a top seven finish and a return to Europe for only the second time in their history. They visit Aston Villa, Wolves and Everton, and host Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea.
