Victor Osimhen has been a real threat in this season’s Champions League and was central again as Galatasaray beat Liverpool this week.

Osimhen assisted the only goal of the game in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over the Premier League champions, rising highest to nod a corner kick into the path of Mario Lemina. Osimhen’s assist was his eighth goal involvement in this season’s Champions League, having already scored seven goals in the competition.

His fine form has now made this the most productive Champions League campaign ever by a Nigerian footballer.

Osimhen’s eight goals and assists have broken the previous record of six goal involvements, held jointly by four Super Eagles’ stars. The most recent to achieve the feat was Ademola Lookman, who did so in 2024-25 for Atalanta.

Osimhen still has at least one more game to add to his total, when the Turkish champions travel to Anfield with a narrow lead to protect next week.

The 27-year-old has underlined his credentials as one of the world’s top strikers in Turkey, with 55 goals in 68 games for the Istanbul outfit.

The most goal involvements by a Nigerian in a single Champions League campaign

8 – Victor Osimhen (25/26) 6 – Ademola Lookman (24/25) 6 – Tijani Babangida (96/97) 6 – Yakubu (02/03) 6 – John Utaka (02/03)
