Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is aiming to be fit in time for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

The Hungary international was forced off late on during last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, prompting immediate concern given his importance to Arne Slot’s side.

Those fears were eased after a scan confirmed the injury was not serious and would not require a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Szoboszlai has responded positively to treatment in recent days and remains under close monitoring as Liverpool assess the risks of involving him in London.

A final decision on his availability is expected on Friday following further checks by the club’s medical staff.

If Liverpool decide not to take any chances, he should be ready to return for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield on December 27.

Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers this season, offering energy, creativity and leadership in midfield.

Before his substitution against Brighton, the 25-year-old had played every minute of Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

His workload has been significant and will be a factor in the decision-making process ahead of a demanding festive schedule.

The midfielder is also walking a disciplinary tightrope, sitting one yellow card away from a one-match suspension.

He must avoid a booking in the next three league fixtures to reach the higher threshold for a ban.

Liverpool is already set to be without Joe Gomez for the Tottenham match after he suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton.

The issue is not considered serious, but the club want to manage his minutes carefully due to his injury history.

Conor Bradley is expected to deputise at right-back after returning from suspension.

Liverpool are also boosted by positive signs in rehabilitation elsewhere, with Jeremie Frimpong edging closer to training.

The Netherlands international has stepped up his recovery work at the Kirkby training base and is nearing a return.
