The Athletic has provided an update on the Manchester United players who will be out of contract in June.

While it’s already been confirmed that Casemiro will be departing after a mutual agreement to bypass his 12-month option, the club still have decisions to make over a handful of other Reds.

Along with Casemiro: Who’s leaving United this summer?

As well as the Brazilian, both Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho will be leaving as free agents when their deals expire in three months’ time.

Neither has played a prominent role for United since the end of the 2022/2023 campaign, with Malacia sustaining an injury that would keep him out for 18 months, and Sancho falling out with Erik ten Hag, which has led to him overseeing three successive loan spells.

The full-back is currently part of Michael Carrick’s squad and has featured twice this campaign, both coming via short cameos against Newcastle United that totalled only seven minutes of action.

Meanwhile, Sancho is seeing out the remaining games of his loan with Aston Villa, who are still battling for a top-four finish and have qualified for the Europa League quarter-finals. There was no buy clause included in his terms with the Midlands outfit.

Who’s in talks over new deals?

In regard to who will be retained in M16, it’s now public knowledge that Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo are in active negotiations over new contracts.

Maguire’s would be a one-year deal plus the option of another season, while Mainoo’s, should it be agreed, would run until 2031, with United keen on having him tied down for the foreseeable future.

The Athletic has also revealed that United are in discussions with Tom Heaton regarding another year in Manchester.

The veteran shot-stopper has not featured for the first team since February 2023, but it’s thought his expertise has proven hugely beneficial around Carrington, particularly for the young goalkeeping unit.
