Sunderland's summer transfer business is gathering pace after the club confirmed Thomas Meunier's arrival on Wednesday. According to Sunderland Echo, attention turns to Florent Ghisolfi's next moves.
Outgoings are central. Sunderland look well placed for Premier League and UEFA rules after Eliezer Mayenda's sale, though there is scope to create further headroom.
Departures split between saleable assets and players needing a reboot, both easing wages. There is interest in Simon Adingra, which could recoup a significant share of Sunderland's outlay. Anthony Patterson wants a permanent move, but no Championship bid meets the valuation.
Leo Hjelde and Jenson Seelt are back for pre-season yet could go, with two years left and modest SCR gains likely. Ghisolfi is also working on Luis Hemir, Alan Browne, Arthur Masuaku, Aji Alese and Abdoullah Ba, where reduced fees and salary hurdles are expected. Exits would help maximise the budget.
Further departures are possible. Ahmed Abdullahi is expected to leave on loan, with a permanent switch feasible if the right bid arrives. Romaine Mundle could move amid continental interest and his sale would strongly aid SCR.
Wilson Isidor's case is more complex. With two years left this is the best SCR window, but he remains important to Régis Le Bris and difficult to replace.
Meunier adds full-back depth and leadership, likely ending a permanent move for Lutsharel Geertruida. At least three further signings are possible. A natural right winger is needed after Bertrand Traoré, with AS Roma's Matías Soulé among options. On the left, Reinildo is the only specialist and a left-sided centre back remains a target after missing Jhon Lucumí. Leeds United are moving for Tarik Muharemović from Sassuolo.
