It always seemed to be a matter of time before Kyle Walker left Manchester City permanently. The England international spent the second half of the 24/25 season on loan at AC Milan. Come the end of last season there was no chance of Walker returning to the fold at City. Now the right-back looks set to complete a move to Burnley. With his move to Burnley on the verge of being confirmed the chapter on Kyle Walker’s successful City career is about to be closed.
Esteemed Kompany sources have learned that Kyle Walker is set to sign a two-year contract with Burnley. Furthermore, it has been revealed by Esteemed Kompany sources that Burnley beat Fenerbahce, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton to the signature of the England international. It has also been learned by Esteemed Kompany sources that the opportunity to remain in England and take up a key role in mentoring Burnley’s younger players, and also being able to play regular first-team football, were key factors in Walker’s decision.
Sky Sports has further reported that Kyle Walker has completed his medical ahead of his move to Burnley. Furthermore, Sky Sports reports that the deal that will see Walker sign for Burnley could potentially be worth up to £5 million.
Despite how the end of Kyle Walker’s Manchester City career panned out he has given everything to the club. At his peak, he was a constant in City’s era of dominance. Playing at right-back the England international was a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side. He regularly locked down a host of dangerous wingers across England and Europe. His pace and athleticism were key component of City’s defence. Without Kyle Walker’s efforts, it is doubtful that City would have achieved as much success as they did in recent years. There is also a strong argument to be made that during his time at Manchester City that Kyle Walker established himself as the greatest right-back in Premier League history.
All told, Kyle Walker was a part of a Manchester City squad that won 17 major trophies. With his strong performances he was an integral member of Pep Guardiola’s side. Although the manner of how the 24/25 season unfolded was disappointing, it doesn’t diminish Kyle Walker’s achievements at City. When Walker’s move to Burnley is made official the right-back will leave as a City legend. There is no doubting that fact based on how well played when he was at his peak.
