Tomorrow night a wounded and unhappy Chelsea face PSG at Stamford Bridge, going into the game on the wrong end of a 5-2 result from the first leg.
Ask around the stadium and you won’t find many many believing that a miracle can happen. But striker Joao Pedro, who was the player elected to be in the press conference today, has explained why they should.
“I think this week was difficult for us. We know our strengths and we still believe because of what we showed in the Club World Cup when we won 3-0 [against Paris],” the striker said.
“The group believe, the manager believes, the fans should believe as well.”
Should the fans believe? They’ve seen little in the last two weeks to convince them that this team are capable of pulling off a win by 3 goals against a very strong PSG side. If the players want the fans to believe, they need to give them something to base that on.
Joao Pedro had accompanied Liam Rosenior to the presser, and tensions were also rising on the subject of the goal which Chelsea conceded to Newcastle.
Rosenior also spoke about the quotes from one of the club’s directors that it’s “obvious” that Chelsea are building one of the best teams in the league.
