Palmer made his first England appearance under Thomas Tuchel in Friday’s 1-1 draw against Uruguay, and put in an impressive performance.
The national media were in agreement that Palmer made a difference, and he’ll be hoping for another positive performance in the next friendly against Japan.
Tuchel expressed how much he loves Palmer in the build up to the game against Uruguay, but the 23-year-old faces a tough task if he’s to earn a starting role at the World Cup.
Palmer has missed a number of England camps due to a groin injury, which kept him out for the majority of the first half of the season.
There’s serious competition for the number ten role, with Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden also potentially competing for the role.
Rogers appears to be Tuchel’s preferred choice, but a lot can change between now and the World Cup, although currently Rooney feels the Aston Villa man should get the nod.
“Some players have come in, you know, you look at Morgan Rogers for instance coming into the squad and you then you’ve got the likes of Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer for instance,” he said via Beanysports.
“All fighting to try and get in the team and at the minute you you’d probably say that’s Morgan Rogers’ spot at the minute the way he’s been playing.”

Palmer isn’t the only Chelsea player who’s impressed on international duty, with Enzo Fernandez also putting in a good performance for Argentina.
