Sheffield Wednesday are awaiting confirmation that the Storch family have completed their purchase of the club, which would signal a bright new era for the Yorkshire outfit.

This has been a torrid campaign for all connected to the Owls, with Wednesday having effectively been relegated for months after they were hit with two points deductions.

However, the major concern centred on the future of the club, due to the position they were left in by former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The Storch family are pushing to complete takeover of Sheffield Wednesday

As we know, this is a lengthy process, and there’s no definitive timeframe on when the EFL will ratify the takeover.

Therefore, it’s a case of waiting and seeing what happens for the Wednesday fans, although they’re understandably anxious given what they have been through.

That came after it had been claimed the EFL’s decision to enforce a 15-point sanction next season, along with restrictions on transfers and wages, could put the Storch family off.

When asked by FLW about the encouraging noises coming out regarding the takeover, Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna explained that whilst he is excited about the prospect of the Storch family, he won’t be happy until it’s signed off, as he criticised the EFL’s role in all of this.

Everything coming out so far is positive. They seem to have a plan for what they want to do, the communication has been good, and the desire to buy the club is real. I don’t get the sense that they’re any sort of tyre kickers like the Bord consortium.

But, as Sheffield Wednesday fans, you don’t want to get too carried away. The history of our club doesn’t tie in with good things happening!

As it has been pointed out, the EFL are a real threat to our future, a threat to this takeover, with their pathetic grandstanding over points deductions and transfer restrictions. They’ve made themselves look like incompetent fools by taking the line that we’d be lucky to be members next season and that 15 points is non-negotiable, even though our supporters' trust has proven that is incorrect.

I would counter that fear with the Storch family hiring Nick De Marco who knows how to take the EFL to the cleaners, and I’m sure their legal team is sharp as well.

It’s those two emotions that I have right now. A confidence that the Storch family are the real deal, but there’s a fear that the EFL are deliberately out to fail us through their constraints, so there is a chance it could fall through. So, mixed emotions at the minute, but, obviously, hopefully it goes through to leave us in a competitive position for next season.”

Sheffield Wednesday need takeover clarity ahead of 2026/27 season

When you look at what Wednesday have been through, most will agree that they won’t get too carried away until the takeover is signed and sealed.

Yet, unlike the Bord consortium, when there were always doubts about whether they could complete, it does feel different with the Storch family.

They have serious wealth, they have outlined their plans, and they know what they’re getting themselves into in terms of the points deduction next season and the scale of the rebuild.

So, the fact they are still pushing to get it done is hugely encouraging, and even with the restrictions in place, the Owls will be able to look ahead to a much brighter future once they are in place.
