Thieves are targeting vehicles parked on Hadfield Road in Leckwith while fans attend games at Cardiff City Stadium, with cars stolen or stripped in recent months.

According to Wales Online, two Ford cars were taken from the road on Wednesday night during the Cardiff City vs Port Vale match.

Last month, 19-year-old Tyran Brookman left his Ford Fiesta there for the Wales vs Bosnia & Herzegovina match, returning to a smashed window and a torn-off front bumper. He said he had parked there since he started driving and had not previously seen problems.

He and his 10-year-old brother waited past midnight for recovery. Police investigated, but CCTV had no view because a lorry blocked the car.

Insurers wrote the vehicle off after damage topping £11,000. He now has a new car and described almost a month without one as a nightmare.

The crimes seem part of a wider trend of thieves targeting supporters’ cars, timing offences for when owners are at matches. Earlier this month, two men pleaded guilty to 98 car cannibal offences around Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s stadium between December 2022 and October 2024.

South Wales Police said they recognise car crime is upsetting, costly and inconvenient, and that other recent thefts have been reported. The local neighbourhood team is increasing patrols in the area.
