Adebayo Adeleye has had enough. The Super Eagles goalkeeper from Nigeria is asking the public to stop comparing him to André Onana, the Cameroonian shot-stopper for Manchester United.

Currently in camp with Nigeria for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, Adeleye voiced his frustration over repeated comments confusing him with André Onana:

I am Adebayo Adeleye, a Nigerian goalkeeper. Some people confuse me with André Onana, but we are two different players.

The 24-year-old makes it clear that while he respects the Cameroonian’s career, he insists on their different nationalities and professional journeys:

I am proud to be Nigerian and I want my identity to be respected.

Proud of his heritage, the young keeper reiterates that he represents Nigeria and wishes for that to be acknowledged. A firm statement. Now, the question remains whether this message will resonate with the fans in question.
