Tottenham manager Thomas Frank called for more from his men up front after centre-back and captain Cristian Romero rescued a 2-2 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.
Micky van de Ven’s opener and the Argentine’s 90th-minute header – cancelling out goals from Axel Tuanzebe and Lyle Foster – continued to deputize for the Spurs attackers.
With the draw, plus a 2-1 defeat to rivals West Ham last time out, marking a second consecutive game where Spurs failed to defeat a team in the bottom three, Frank rued his defenders’ need to bail out his side’s toothless offense.
He said: “It’s fantastic, two defenders scoring again. That is very positive. But you of course need more from your offensive players.
“They work very hard on it. The day we add that together, plus defending a tiny bit better, then we will win.”
The aforementioned heroics of Spurs’ central defenders makes them the club’s joint-second top scorers this season behind the injured Richarlison.
Whilst the result keeps the intense fan pressure piled on the Spurs boss, who remain winless in the league in 2026, Frank saw plenty of positives with how his side performed.
The Dane said: “I don’t think it was a bad performance. It was maybe not the result we hoped for.
“I think the performance, especially the first half, was good. The way we ended the game, good. Average second half, which you’ve seen many times.
“Then unfortunately it lacked with two moments where we didn’t defend well enough. That’s what we are working very, very hard on, to try to get on top of.”
Whilst supporters will struggle to buy into Frank’s positivity, given where Spurs sit in the table and the run of results, he suggested the dominance in the first half demonstrated what he wants from his Tottenham side albeit for an outstanding goalkeeping performance.
Frank said: “Dubravka was Man of the Match, he was that for a reason.
“That means we did a lot of things right offensively. I think we came here, took some of the confidence from the game against Dortmund into the game.”
“I think actually we were very good, dominating the game, on top of the game, scoring 1-0 goal, creating a lot of chances, opportunities, could have done the 2-0, more or less if not out of sight, then definitely in a very good way to try to win a football match.”
Whilst it’s unclear how much longer the Tottenham hierarchy remain committed to the Thomas Frank project, the reality is the result sees Spurs remain 14th and now just eight points clear of West ham in 18th, with the three teams below them yet to play this weekend.
They now embark on a run of fixtures against Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle, and Arsenal, plus a crucial trip to Eintracht Frankfurt to try and secure a place in the top eight of the Champions League, assuring their progression to the round of 16.
