A new chapter is beginning for former Kaizer Chiefs icon Tinashe Nengomasha, whose post-playing career in football management is on a promising upward trajectory. The midfield enforcer, once a beloved figure at Amakhosi, has now taken a significant step up by joining Harare giants Caps United as their new team manager for the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

This strategic appointment was unveiled on Friday as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the club's technical structure. The move sees Nengomasha transitioning from his previous role as team manager at Ngezi Platinum FC to one of Zimbabwe's most storied clubs, signaling a clear ambition from Caps United to revitalize their fortunes. The club is seeking a dramatic improvement after a disappointing ninth-place finish in the 2025 season, a distant 26 points behind the champions, Scotland FC.

Club President Farai Jere introduced the new-look team with palpable excitement, stating, “We’re excited to announce the technical team, followed by our retained players and new signings for Caps United.”

Jere further detailed the new technical hierarchy, which reunites Nengomasha with a familiar face. “Our head coach is Mr. Takesure Chiragwi, assisted by coach Ian Bakala. This marks a new setup for us, and we’re looking to expand our technical team. Nengomasha [Tinashe] will also be coming in as team manager.”

This appointment adds an interesting layer to Nengomasha's legacy. Despite his immense success in South Africa, he never secured a league title in his native Zimbabwe as a player. Now, he returns to the domestic scene armed with proven managerial credentials, having masterminded Ngezi Platinum Stars' 2023 league title triumph.

His commitment to honing his craft is further evidenced by his recent enrollment in a prestigious management course offered by the CIES International University Network in partnership with FIFA. Caps United is betting that this blend of hands-on experience, fresh academic knowledge, and the same disciplined approach that made him a fan favorite at Kaizer Chiefs will be the catalyst that transforms them into genuine title contenders.
