The Segunda RFEF match between Torrent CF and CD Castellón B, set for Sunday 12:00 at San Gregorio, was postponed by the RFEF at Castellón B’s request due to a flu outbreak across much of their squad.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Torrent were informed at 01:02 on Sunday, and the decision provoked anger at the Valencian club.
The postponement was initially rejected on Saturday, then approved hours later after the number of affected players rose from 11 to 13. The rearranged fixture must be played within the next 15 days.
The federation’s Single Judge for non-professional competitions upheld the appeal in a second ruling, citing an upper respiratory tract infection affecting players who, the decision stated, should remain at home and rest from physical and sporting activity for between three and seven days.
Torrent branded the handling incomprehensible and a sign of institutional disrespect, arguing the late U-turn, made under cover of night, compromised the integrity of the competition given what both clubs are playing for at this stage of the season.
