In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Tottenham Hotspur are trailing Newcastle United for Lens keeper Robin Risser. It is believed that Spurs find themselves behind the Magpies in pursuit of the French custodian this summer.

Risser’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1

Risser has enjoyed a good run of form at the French club this season as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them in Ligue 1. The 21-year-old conceded 28 goals and grabbed 11 clean sheets in 30 appearances for Lens in this campaign so far across all competitions.

The French talent is currently one of the best young keepers in Ligue 1. Thus, it is no surprise that Spurs are in the race to acquire his services this summer.

His current contract at Lens will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it difficult for Tottenham to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

What Should Tottenham Hotspur Do With Regards To Risser?

Risser can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He can use his quick reflexes to make a few important saves at the back for his team.

The French sensation is a good handler of the ball as well. Standing at 1.93m, Risser can use his strong frame to dominate his penalty box when coming out to collect crosses and loose balls. However, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if Spurs manage to get a deal done for him at the end of this campaign.

We can expect Risser to enhance the quality of Tottenham’s attack in the long run. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.

At 21, Risser has got the potential to be a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each year. However, Spurs have to give him some time to adjust to life England before he can get the best out of the talented keeper. All in all, it makes sense for the North London club to step up their efforts to sign Risser this off-season.
