Trump, the United States president, praised Palmeiras during a White House event honouring MLS champions Inter Miami, referencing their 2-2 draw at the Club World Cup. According to Globo.com, he lauded Luis Suárez while speaking to the team.

Inter Miami and Palmeiras met in the final round of the group stage, played at the home of Lionel Messi’s side. Miami led 1-0 before Suárez doubled the lead on 65 minutes, then Paulinho and Mauricio struck late to level.

Trump said Suárez collected the ball in midfield and embarked on a classic solo run, gliding past defenders, cutting left and finishing. He described Palmeiras as Brazil’s best team and said the strike secured Miami’s progression.

Inter Miami later fell in the round of 16, losing 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain. Palmeiras were eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 2-1 defeat by Chelsea.

The remarks came as Trump highlighted Suárez’s achievements with Inter Miami during the visit.
