Valencia find away form in LaLiga’s second half

Valencia’s away form has improved in LaLiga’s second half, despite the blot at El Tartiere. According to Superdeporte, Carlos Corberán’s team had no away win in nine league trips before the break.

After a heavy loss at Balaídos, the approach shifted. Since then they have won three of six away, with three defeats.

The first trip after Vigo was Getafe, a direct survival scrap, scrappy and physical with few chances. Valencia edged it late with a fine strike from Gayà.

They then fell in Seville to Betis despite playing well, before taking the derby at the Ciutat with a strong second half settled by Sadiq and Ramazani. A flat defeat followed at La Cerámica with barely a shot on target.

A defeat at Oviedo brought the worst away display, short on ambition and ideas, which demanded a response. Valencia then won at the Sánchez Pizjuán with arguably their best away game of the season, organised, combative and incisive with a flawless tactical plan.

Those three second half away wins already exceed last season’s two in 19 trips and top the two from 20-21. In 22-23 under Gattuso and Baraja they also managed three in 19, the same as this half-season.

Tough trips remain, next to Elche and Mallorca, both battling to stay in the top flight. Then come two Basque visits, first the Nuevo San Mamés and finally Real Sociedad, possibly with European stakes.
