The Tunisian defender from Sheffield Wednesday, Yan Valery, was full of praise for the exceptional talent of Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal, with whom he once shared the Southampton dressing room.
In a video published by the CAPTÉ channel on TikTok, Valery reflected on the extraordinary qualities of the Union Saint-Gilloise player, insisting that what Boufal pulled off in training was every bit as spectacular as what he delivers in official matches.
In a video shared by the CAPTÉ channel on TikTok, Valery recalled those unforgettable moments: “I would watch him, stunned, and ask him: Sofiane… what are you even doing at Southampton?!”
He went on: “If he made up his mind to play, he’d just take the ball and dribble past everyone in front of him… one by one. Some people think I’m exaggerating, but Boufal, with both feet and all that skill… he’s truly exceptional.”
Valery also shared a memorable story: “One day, he had a disagreement with the coach. We were playing a 5v5 in training… he picks up the ball, dribbles past everyone, goes around the keeper, and just rolls it into the net.”
He explained that the players were left speechless by what they’d just witnessed, before the coach stepped in unexpectedly: he came up to Boufal in the canteen, smiled at him despite their falling out, and said: “Hey, show some respect to my players next time!”
Valery concluded by stating that Boufal possesses a rare talent and is one of the most creative and gifted players he’s ever encountered in his career.
