Vangelis Pavlidis third as Luis Suárez wins January Liga Portugal Betclic award | OneFootball

Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis finished third in January’s Liga Portugal Betclic Player of the Month vote, as Sporting’s Luis Suárez won the award.

According to Glorioso 1904, Suárez topped the head coaches’ ballot with 37.04%, Yanis Begraoui of Estoril, coached by Ian Cathro, claimed 16.67%, and Pavlidis received 12.04%.

Pavlidis scored five goals in three January matches, a hat-trick against Estoril on matchday 17 and a brace versus Estrela da Amadora on matchday 19. Suárez’s three goals proved important in Sporting victories.

Their duel has become one of the season’s defining rivalries in Portugal. Both forwards are joint top scorers in the league with 19 goals each.

Pavlidis, valued at 35 million euros, has played 39 competitive games for Benfica this season, 21 in the league, 12 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,167 minutes he has 27 goals and five assists.
