Video: André Onana furious after defeat to Cape Verde
The Indomitable Lions' defeat to Cape Verde (0-1) left a clear mark. As Cameroon struggles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, goalkeeper André Onana violently shoved a Cape Verde supporter who was trying to take a photo with him.
The incident took place outside the Estádio Nacional in Cape Verde. The video shows a massive crowd, dominated by Cape Verde fans. The Manchester United goalkeeper was trying to make his way to the Indomitable Lions' team bus. A Blue Sharks supporter approached with his phone in hand, but Onana, visibly frustrated by the result, shoved the person away with a sharp motion.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper's reaction sparked a wave of responses on social media. While some sympathized with the player's frustration after a potentially decisive defeat, others criticized the lack of respect shown to the fan. This incident only adds to the tensions already simmering around the Cameroon squad.
Mathematically, this disappointing loss pushes Cameroon further away from direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup. In Group D, where Cape Verde led prior to the eighth round, the gap has widened to 4 points (19 for Cape Verde, 15 for Cameroon), putting Cape Verde on the verge of a historic qualification with just two games remaining.
