Alejandro Garnacho is feeling the pressure of Jamie Gittens’ improving form, but he’s done himself a big favour tonight with an important goal.
The winger raced forward on the counter and tried to pick out Estevao. The pass was cut out, but the loose ball fell to Garnacho again, and he hit a great low shot on his left foot, across the keeper low into the corner to equalise the game.
It was a great moment for him – his first Chelsea goal in the Champions League. But it comes in immensely frustrating circumstances as the Blues drop points in a game where they desperately needed three. Enzo Maresca’s decision to bring on Garnacho was justified though – and the left winger will surely stay in his first team plans going forward.

This defeat puts Chelsea in a tricky position in terms of their Champions League hopes. The top 8 was on the cards if they could win tonight – now they need results against the likes of Barcelona if they want to avoid that playoff later in the season.
We’re now at the half way point of the league phase, and we’ve had two wins, a draw and a defeat. This was our most winnable game in many ways, and we fear these two points will haunt us come January.
Once again, just as there’s the potential to answer come questions from this team, their mentality lets them down.
The Blues had taken the lead in this game through Estevao Willian – although their subsequent bad defending meant that didn’t last long.
Joe Cole has named the player he thinks would be his first name on the Chelsea team sheet – and surprisingly it isn’t Cole Palmer.
